In Afghanistan, the prolonged conflict has had devastating effects on families and communities. Many women have lost their husbands, fathers, or sons to the ongoing violence and instability. As a result, these women are often left to shoulder the responsibility of supporting and caring for their families alone. This situation is compounded by the lack of access to adequate economic opportunities and support systems.

Challenges Faced by Women and Children:

  • Economic Strain: With the primary male breadwinners gone, women are forced into precarious situations where they must find ways to provide for their families under extremely difficult conditions. The absence of stable income sources often leaves them struggling to meet basic needs.

  • Child Labor and Street Begging: Many young children in these families are forced into child labor or resort to begging on the streets to contribute to the family’s income. This not only deprives them of their childhood and education but also exposes them to further exploitation and abuse.

  • Lack of Support: The absence of support structures and resources exacerbates the hardship faced by these families. Without access to vocational training or employment opportunities, women and children are trapped in cycles of poverty and dependency.
